ZWCAD & Hope Technologies Find Success in India

October 31, 2012
ZWSOFT’s exclusive distributor in India, Hope is focused on providing cost-effective CAD solutions to customers in India and internationally. They’ve been partnering with ZWSOFT for over 4 years and because of it, have seen their business grow by leaps and bounds.  Now, Hope has a team of 18 dedicated sales and technical staff while they also appointed and trained 20 channel partners who actively sell ZWSOFT products in India.
“Our strength is creating the appropriate strategy to enter and sustain the market.” Stated Jacob Panamthanath, CEO of Hope Technologies. Their market journey has been very interesting.

The Indian Market
In India, Autodesk is the dominant player and has more than 80% of the market share. Unlike in other countries where Autodesk has on average 60-65%. Almost all the technical colleges and private training institutes in India only train people in AutoCAD.
Many have tried to introduce different products, but most have failed to make a significant dent in the Indian market due to reliability issues. Because of this, CAD customers are hesitant and not willing to take a risk with new products.
Nevertheless, Hope decided that with the right product, and right strategy, they could be successful.  And that is just what happened.

Hope’s Strategy and Persistence Pays Off
In the first year, Hope pitched ZWCAD as an effective replacement of AutoCAD, and not LT. In order for customers to feel ZWCAD’s power, they created a dedicated team to helps customers transfer their existing LISP programs to ZWCAD.  They also linked existing excel and database applications. This enabled Hope to not only fight only on the price stage, but on ZWCAD’s technical strength as well. In order to effectively spread the word about ZWCAD, Hope did a large number of seminars all across India and targeted a specific market segment which gave them reasonable success.

Over the next 3 years, Hope implemented and experimented with other strategies, trying to find what worked best for ZWCAD in India.  They reached out to over a hundred thousand companies and introduced ZWCAD in over 40 seminars in just one year. During this time, they were hit with an obstacle. The leading CAD provider in India dropped their prices and declared a price war with their competitors.  Hope would not give up, they just worked harder. They did not want to be one of the companies that failed because a large rival pushed them aside.  So Hope strategized and introduced a 3 year subscription plan where customers receive yearly upgrades for a greatly reduced price, while at the same time Hope assured their customers about their long term commitment to them, and ZWCAD.
This plan worked, so Hope decided to open up to the mechanical and plant design market. Because of their mature sales and tech team, they were able to give continuous support and expand their market, even alluring large multi-nationals. Always looking to give added value to their customers, Hope started working with third party developers and developed a few applications themselves.  Education is important and Hope believed in the future generation of CAD students and ZWCAD. Therefore, they began to work with private training institutes, allowing students to train on 2D CAD using ZWCAD.
All of these efforts grew ZWCAD’s name in India and it is now known as a powerful cost-effective 2D CAD solution. Hope has worked tirelessly to spread knowledge about how ZWCAD can not only save users money, but also offer legal CAD software with advanced features that can get the job done.
Happy Customers
One of Hopes customers, the Licensed Engineers and Supervisors Federation (LENSFED) in Kerala, choose ZWCAD for its capability and compatibility of AutoDCR, industry standards and Hope’s outstanding customer support. After purchasing ZWCAD, Hope helped with the set up and installation of the software and was always on hand to provide technical support and answer any questions.

Truman Du, CEO of ZWSOFT stated, “ZWSOFT is proud to have knowledgeable, experienced and helpful local distributors like Hope, all over the world to offer support to our customers, like LENSFED.” Hope tends to go above and beyond for their customers, making sure they are happy and helping in any way they can. This is what makes them and ZWCAD stand out in India’s tough CAD market.

ZWSOFT & Hope, a Successful Partnership

ZWSOFT and Hope went into business together over 4 years ago. Time has flown by and together they’ve managed to accomplish the impossible. Without constant communication, trust and support, things might have turned out differently. “ZWSOFT has always kept their confidence in Hope to grow the business in India, despite the number of resellers approaching them wanting to be a direct partner,” Stated Jacob Panamthanathof Hope Technologies.

Hope has gone above and beyond in their work and partnership with ZWSOFT and because of this, won multiple awards including, partner of the year, great tech support to over 6,000 users and best technical insider.  All of this is a testament to Hope’s commitment to their customers and ZWCAD.

Looking forward, ZWSOFT and Hope plan to expand ZWCAD’s customer base in India. With the recent release of ZWCAD+ with a whole new engine, Hope believes that they will surpass dominant competitors in features, reliability and speed.

ZWCAD Hot tutorial: Scaling Objects with Different X and Y Scale Factors in CAD Software

Sometimes in 2D drafting, we need to apply different X and Y scale factors to change the size or shape of existing objects. For example scale it only on X axis without scaling on Y axis. But it seems impossible for ZWCAD to do this with the Scale command. In ZWCAD users are not allowed to specify different scale factors on different axis at the same time. So it is difficult for us to change window “a” to a narrower window “b” just by scaling as shown in Figure 1.

Are there any other ways to scale X an Y axis separately? Here is one way--we combine scaling with block insertion. Make the objects into block, and then insert with uniform scale factors, after which we explode the block to get the original objects back. The detailed steps are as follows:

1.    Select the objects which you want to scale, and then turn the objects into a block with the Block command.

2.    With the Insert command, insert the block made in step 1, into your drawing.
3.    In the Insert Block dialog box, change the X and Y scale factors, as required. Remember to uncheck the “Uniform Scale” option before inputting the scale factors.
4.    Put the block at the purpose location of your drawing.
5.    Run Explode command to make the block into original objects.

One exception is polyline with arc segments. After exploding a uniform scaled block that is made up with polyline, you will find the arcs become elliptical arcs. Even so, converting objects into block is a good way to scale object in different directions. But in practical term, it is a roundabout way to achieve. Is it possible to make it work by a simple command? Luckily I found a lisp program from some website to save steps for this task. Users may refer to: Scaleaxis.

With all above, users will surely find scaling in different directions independently in ZWCAD has never been so easier!

The Upcoming ZWCAD Gets a Smart Ribbon UI

Recently there has been a lot of speculation about the next version of ZWCAD because of information released in an official statement this March. We are confident to say, that the next release of ZWCAD will be a game changer. It will greet users firstly withnew user interface features, including an application menu button, new capabilities for palettes and most notably, SmartMouse and a different Ribbon Interface. Now let’s take a sneak peek at the new user interface.

1. SwitchBetween Classic and RibbonMenu

In the newversion of
ZWCAD, the classic menu bar is retained for users who prefer to stay with thisfamiliar interface. It is, however, turned off by default. To display the menu bar, click the arrow at the lower-right corner of ZWCAD. From the popup menu, choose the Classic/Ribbon option to display eitherthe menu bar orthe ribbon.

2. Using Classic Dropdown Menus with the Ribbon
You don’t need to switch to the classic menu; you can enjoy the ribbon as well as the classic menu in one environment. The Classic Menu Access Button lets you access menu items while working in the ribbon environment. You find this button inthe top-right of the ribbon. (See the figure below for its location.)

3. Hide the Ribbon to Gain More Room
The ribbon presents many icons, but its large size reduces drafting space. There is, however,no need to worry about this, because you can minimize the ribbon any time. At the right end of the ribbon’s tab names, there is a down-arrow button: click it to minimize the ribbon; click it again to bring back the ribbon.

4. Three Skins for ZWCAD
The default color scheme of ZWCAD’s skin is Black, but there are two more options: Light Blue and Silver. These let you choose between dark and light motifs. The skin options button is atthe topright corner of the interface, as illustrated below.

5. Auto-hide Palettes
All palettes in ZWCAD, like the Properties palette, Design Center, and Tool palettes, have a new feature: they are all hidable. Just right clickon a palette, and then check the Auto-hide option, as illustrated below. From now on, palettes are hidden when your cursor is not over them. This gains you more room fordrafting.

6. SmartMouse = Mouse Gestures for ZWCAD
Mouse gestures are common among Web browsers for performing browsing actions, and now this useful technology has been added to ZWCAD. We call it “SmartMouse,” and you can customize commands for eachgesture. To do so, choose the Tools tab in the ribbon, and then in the Mouse Gesture panel, click the Settings button. This opens a dialog box for modifying the commands associated with different gestures.

7. Thumbnail Views of Recently Opened Drawings
In the upper left corner, there is a ZWCAD logo. It’s the application menu button(see figure below), whereyou can find a list of all of the drawings that were recently opened -- or that are currently open now. You can also view them as icons or as images. When you choose the Large Image option, then the drawings areshownas thumbnail images, which let you instantly recognize the drawing contents.

8. Search All Related Commands
The ZWCAD application menu button contains a search box, as shown below. When you input a keyword, it lists all related commands that you can select from to use in your drawing. This is a quick way to find functions whose name you don’t exactly remember.
